Warning: The following list of cities to visit is based on personal taste. And, you know what they say: “De gustibus non est disputandum” (in matters of taste, there can be no disputes ).
The only two criteria I have used for selecting the cities were how well the place made me feel and the memories I have collected during my visits. Pretty objective criteria, don’t you think?
For a quick break, a longer weekend or a short holiday (depending on your geographical location), the cities on this list won’t fail to amaze, enchant, and surprise it. They are all bustling places, so don’t expect to just sit and relax by the pool. That, you can do it somewhere else, to recharge after visiting these cities.
Just because it’s Rome. The Eternal City. You might not like its chaotic traffic or the general sensation that it’s just a huge mess. Trust me, in less than a day, that feeling will disappear. Slowly, but surely, Rome will take you in and you’ll start seeing its beauty. And its beauties. Plenty.
At every corner and on every street. And if you have time, stroll, get lost, and look around. You’ll notice new(ish) buildings built on top of medieval buildings built on top of ancient Roman buildings.
And, when you start getting a little dizzy from all this beauty, find one of the thousands of “gelateria” around and treat yourself with a refreshing homemade gelato (icecream in Italian) and a strong espresso. And, start strolling again.
Am I a little in love with Rome? Maybe more than a little.
PS. Why not watching Roman Holiday again? More than 60 years after it was filmed (1953), Rome, Audrey Hepburn, and Gregory Peck are as enchanting as ever.
Do you really need a reason to visit Paris? I’ll give you five: culture, art, food, history, art-de-vivre. Do you want more? Fashion, design, architecture. Is that enough to convince you that Paris is worth a visit?
If you haven’t been there yet, when you go, do all the things people do when they visit it the first time: visit the landmarks, go to the museums, shop, and wander.
If you’ve already been there and you think it’s not worth another visit, think again. There are for sure many interesting museums you haven’t visited, art galleries, exhibitions, shows, restaurants, terraces to enjoy a drink and people watch. And more, and more, and more.
Have you seen any of the cities on this list?
If not, I hope I convinced you to go and visit some of them.
